BRENDAN MILLS

I started out life very fit and active and have always had a key interest in outdoor pursuits. Through my school life I was very interested in boxing and running and competed with my local clubs. When I was 18 I went off to Leeds university (weighing 12 stone), and four years later came out weighing 16stone and 10 pounds!)

When I moved back to Kent I became very concerned as to my lifestyle and health concerns with the weight I had put on. I tried joining the local gym but found that I did not have the motivation or commitment to make any real changes. The turning point was when I contacted the local army and was put in touch with an Army Physical Training Instructor. I met with the trainer and was very impressed by my levels of motivation and was also encouraged at the thought of training outside – I am not a fan of the gym environment!

By committing to three months of personal training it was clear that it would force me to make my very difficult life style changes and being a new graduate with a huge student debt meant making some very difficult financial decisions. Once the training started I found that I actually really enjoyed my new life style, although don’t be fooled – it was a lot of hard work and dedication! The best thing above all else, was that because I had committed to my trainer I had to turn up to my sessions! No more room for excuses!

After the course of three months I was so enthused and inspired by the training that I had done that I signed up with Lifetime health and fitness and enrolled on my fitness instructor course. I had already lost over 2 stone, my fitness had improved dramatically and I felt like I was living my life again.

Two and a half years later and I weigh 12 stone, compete regularly in athletic competitions, am an advanced fitness instructor / Personal trainer but most importantly have managed to maintain a healthy lifestyle and keep the weight off.

I genuinely believe that going through my experience has helped me to relate more with people who are trying to make difficult lifestyle changes and can truly understand the value of personal training. The name Military Mills has been derived due to the training techniques I now follow after the experience I had working with my army physical trainer.

One last thing I would like to note is that outdoor exercise regimes are suitable for everyone and are completely adaptable for varying levels of ages and abilities. Please do not be put off by thinking that you have to be a Marine Command in order to this training – this is absolutely not the case!! The best way to see how you get on is to book a free trial session.
